Yes, Florida Power & Light provides net metering, which allows you to save significantly on your power cost.
Florida Power and Light (FPL) Net Metering
Net metering permits FPL customers who connect certified renewable generation systems to the electric grid, such as solar panels, to buy and sell electricity to FPL.
Your renewable energy system minimizes the quantity of energy you buy from FPL. If your system generates more energy than you require, the excess is sold back to the FPL grid. That amount of energy is taken from your monthly statement or applied to a future bill within the same calendar year.
A variety of renewable energy systems are available in Florida Power and Light Net Metering:

- Biomass (landfill gas or methane)
- Hydroelectric power
- Ocean energy (tidal power or ocean currents)

Does FPL offer rebates and incentives?
No, FPL does not provide rebates or incentives to homeowners that choose to go solar.
On the other hand, Florida citizens with taxable income can still take advantage of the federal solar tax credit. The solar tax credit will reimburse you for 30% of the cost of installing a solar panel system.

It is critical to remember that your solar panels will only be able to cover some of your utility expenses. FPL has a $25 minimum bill requirement that cannot be offset, regardless of how much solar electricity you generate. How is FPL Net Metering Billed?
Your bill will be lower with net metering because you’re using the excess electricity generated by your system instead of having it supplied by FPL. Any extra electricity your system produces will be subtracted from the FPL estimate before your bill is computed. If you have a balance at the end of the year, you will get a cash credit on your January bill.

According to the PVWATTS1 Solar Calculator, a properly planned and maintained photovoltaic (PV) system in Florida should yield around 1,300 and 1,600-kilowatt hours per year for each kilowatt installed.

Signing up for FPL’s Net Metering program
The qualifications for signing up for Net Metering vary according to the size of your system. FPL offers three Tiers based on system size. Please remember that all the tier sizes shown below are the AC Gross Power Rating. This is equal to multiplying your solar panel’s arrays DC rating by 0.85.
- Tier 1: 0 – 10 kW
- Tier 2: Greater than 10 kW DC and less than or equal to 100 kW
- Tier 3: Greater than 100 kW DC and less than or equal to 2 mW
